Job Specification
Director, Asset Management Infrastructure Fund
The Business
Our client is a specialist asset management business managing over €100 billion on behalf of investors worldwide across a range of products and sectors.
It has a long established presence in the Infrastructure market, where it has raised a number of funds and invests primarily by way of direct stake in a broad range of infrastructure businesses including utilities and transportation assets. It focuses on buying and holding assets, providing institutional investors with long term exposure to a portfolio of investments offering attractive risk-adjusted returns.
A dedicated team leads the origination, execution and post acquisition management of assets into the fund. The management team differentiates itself in a competitive market through the long standing track record of both the house and the individuals as experienced investors in infrastructure, combined with the long term buy and hold ownership model and specialist active asset management, post acquisition, of large high profile assets. With a strong pipeline of potential deals in continental Europe, the fund is now keen to identify a Director, Asset Management with international experience to further enhance the European management team.
The Position
The position will report to the Head of Infrastructure Asset Management, Europe. However, the successful candidate will be expected to operate with a large degree of autonomy and independence. Additionally, reflecting the flat, non-hierarchical culture of the business, the successful candidate will be actively involved in the entire range of activities undertaken by the team including fund raising, origination of deals, transaction and, post acquisition, management of portfolio companies.
With a strong operational background in a leading utility or transport infrastructure group, the main focus of the role is to assess potential investment opportunities, undertaking detailed due diligence on transactions which progress and, for those that complete, taking a leading role in the long term active asset management of the investee companies. This will include representing the fund on the boards of acquired companies, where you will both manage the fund’s interests and engage with the executive management to help improve and sustain the long term operational performance of the business and deliver the business case committed to at acquisition. You will do this through astute and diplomatic direction while allowing the executive management team to do their job. You would also be responsible for reporting to Investor Clients on the performance of existing acquisitions and the ongoing initiatives being undertaken.
Qualifications
A high calibre graduate, ideally with an MBA or equivalent professional qualification, you will have a background as a senior executive in operational management with a leading European utility or transportation infrastructure group. This strong working knowledge of operational assets and/or regulation will be supported by equally strong financial skills, ideally demonstrated through firsthand experience of managing large scale capital investment programmes and/or acquisition activity in a regulated market place. You will be able to demonstrate a successful record of delivering sustainable value and operational performance improvements in complex businesses. You will bring the stature, industry credibility and leadership skills to inspire confidence in co-investors and the operational management teams of investee companies. Critically, you will have the entrepreneurialism, energy and drive to enjoy the dynamic culture and sophisticated financial investment environment, combined with a hands-on, down to earth approach so as to fit into the lean fund management team.
